Yao is a small town in south-eastern Batha province, lying near the seasonal floodplain of the Batha River. It is a rural administrative centre serving the surrounding pastoralist and farming communities. The town is very off the beaten path, with minimal infrastructure for travellers.

The nearest airport with scheduled service is N'Djamena International Airport (NDJ), approximately 550 km west.

By Train

By Car / Road

Yao is accessible by unpaved tracks from Ati (roughly 100 km north-west) or from the Guéra region to the south. A 4×4 vehicle is mandatory, and travel is only practical during the dry season.

The town is small enough to cover on foot.
