Nouna
Boucle du Mouhoun, Burkina Faso
Why visit Nouna?
Nouna is a town in northern Boucle du Mouhoun region, located about 45 km north of Dedougou on the RN10 highway. It is a significant market centre for the surrounding agricultural and pastoral communities, with a sizeable Mossi and Fulani population. The town's weekly livestock market draws traders from across the region.
Life in Nouna revolves around the market, agriculture (millet, sorghum, cotton), and small-scale commerce. The town has a dusty, unhurried Sahelian character with wide unpaved streets and a central market square. Most visitors pass through en route to Dedougou or onward to Tougan and the Mali border area.
The climate follows the same Sahelian pattern as the rest of Boucle du Mouhoun: a hot dry season (March–May), a rainy season (June–September), and a cooler dry season (November–February). The best time to visit is November through March.
