Solenzo

Boucle du Mouhoun, Burkina Faso

Why visit Solenzo?

Solenzo is a town in western Boucle du Mouhoun region, located west of Dedougou on the RN14 highway toward the Mali border. It is the capital of Banwa Province. The town functions as an agricultural market centre for the surrounding cotton and shea nut producing villages. The population is primarily Bwaba and Mossi, with Fulani pastoralists active in the surrounding countryside.

Solenzo's economy is driven by cotton—the region's principal cash crop—and shea butter production, which is largely women-led. The town is small and quiet, with limited facilities for travellers, but it offers a genuine glimpse into rural Burkinabe life away from the main transit routes.
