Boromo is a commercial town of 20,193 residents (2019 census) in southwestern Burkina Faso. It serves as the capital of Balé Province within the Boucle du Mouhoun region. Situated along the Mouhoun River (formerly the Black Volta), the town stands at the junction of the N1 national highway—the primary paved road connecting Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso—and the N10 highway running north to Dédougou.
The town functions as the main staging point for visits to Deux Balés National Park, a 800-square-kilometre protected savanna reserve known for its wild elephant population. Local commerce centers on cotton agriculture, livestock trading, calabash craft production, and transit services catering to long-distance truck drivers and bus passengers. The primary local ethnic groups are the Bwaba and Mossi, with a large Muslim population.
Boromo has a tropical savanna climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. Daytime temperatures during the dry period from November to February range from 28°C to 33°C, accompanied by dry harmattan winds from the Sahara. The hot dry season from March to May brings temperatures reaching 40°C to 42°C, while the rainy season from June to October brings roughly 800 mm of annual rainfall and higher humidity.
