Maun

North West, Botswana

Why visit Maun?

Maun is Botswana's tourism capital and the gateway to the Okavango Delta, located in the North West District. Originally a small cattle-ranching settlement, Maun has grown into a bustling town of around 60,000 people, serving as the logistical hub for one of Africa's premier wilderness destinations. The town sits on the Thamalakane River at the southern edge of the Okavango Delta. Maun has a unique frontier character, with safari lodges, adventure operators, supply stores, and a small airport that handles more light aircraft movements than any other airport in southern Africa. It is the starting point for most Okavango Delta safaris, Moremi Game Reserve visits, and scenic flights over the delta.
