About Cherykaw
Cherykaw (Cherikov) is a small town in eastern Mahilioŭskaja voblasć near the Russian border, with a population of about 7,000. First mentioned in the 16th century, it was a minor market town. The area was heavily affected by the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, and parts of the surrounding district remain contaminated. The town has a modest history museum and a 19th-century church.
