Loyew

Loyew (also spelled Loyev) is a town on the right bank of the Dnieper River, near its confluence with the Sozh, in southern Homielskaja voblasć, and the administrative center of Loyew District. It is the site of the 1649 Battle of Loyew, fought on 31 July of that year during the Khmelnytsky Uprising, in which Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth forces under Prince Janusz Radziwiłł defeated a Zaporozhian Cossack army led by colonels Mykhailo Krychevsky, Stepan Pobodailo, and Martyn Nebaba.

• Museum of the Battle for the Dnieper — Opened in 1985 as a branch of the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, with more than 5,000 exhibits; its core exhibition documents the 1943 Red Army crossing of the Dnieper here under General Konstantin Rokossovsky, alongside material on the earlier 1649 battle
