Zardab

Zardab is a small town in central Azerbaijan, serving as the administrative centre of Zərdab District. It is located on the Kura River plain, about 100 km west of Baku. The area is predominantly agricultural, known for cotton, grain, and vegetable farming.

The town was named after the Zərdab region, which historically was part of the Shirvan region of Azerbaijan. During the Soviet period it developed as a centre for cotton processing.

The climate is semi-arid with hot summers reaching 30–35°C and mild winters around 0–5°C. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times to visit.

Zardab is a small, quiet administrative town with limited infrastructure for visitors. It offers an authentic look at provincial life in central Azerbaijan.

The nearest major airport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku, about 100 km east (1.5 hours by car).

By Car / Road

Zardab is on the M2 highway, about 100 km west of Baku and 130 km east of Ganja. Marshrutkas from Baku run regularly, taking about 1.5–2 hours.

The town is compact and walkable. Taxis are available for local trips.

• Zərdab District Museum – a small local history museum with exhibits on the region's agricultural heritage.

• Heydar Aliyev Park – the central park with a monument and walking paths.

• Kura River – the river flows near the town, providing a setting for walks.

• Explore the bazaar – the local market sells fresh produce from the surrounding farms.

• Visit the Kura River – the riverbank is a popular local spot for relaxation.

• Zardab Aşxanası – a simple café in the town centre serving plov, kebabs, and soups. Mains 5–8 AZN.
• Çay evi – a traditional teahouse offering tea and pastries.

Tea is widely available at teahouses. Bottled water is recommended.

The central market sells fresh fruits, vegetables, and dairy products from the surrounding agricultural region. Bargaining is expected.

• Baku (100 km east, 1.5 h) – Azerbaijan's capital with the Old City, Flame Towers, and Caspian promenade.
• Ujar (30 km north-west, 30 min) – district centre with a history museum and market.
• Goychay (50 km north, 50 min) – known as the "cherry capital" of Azerbaijan.
• Mingachevir (120 km west, 1.5 h) – reservoir city with the Mingachevir Dam.
