Why visit?

Zərdab is a rayon in central Azerbaijan, situated in the lowlands between the Greater Caucasus foothills and the Kura River basin. The district is characterized by flat to gently rolling agricultural terrain, with irrigated farmland producing cotton, grain, and melons. The administrative center is the town of Zərdab, a small regional hub serving the surrounding farming communities. The district has a population of approximately 55,000 and is one of Azerbaijan's more modest administrative divisions in terms of tourism infrastructure.

The landscape is predominantly agricultural, with wide fields stretching to the horizon and irrigation canals supporting crop cultivation. The climate is continental with hot, dry summers (35–40°C) and mild winters (2–8°C), making the shoulder seasons the most comfortable for exploration. Zərdab is positioned along the main highway connecting Baku to the western regions, making it a transit point for travelers passing through central Azerbaijan.

While Zərdab is not a primary tourist destination, it offers an authentic glimpse into rural Azerbaijani agricultural life, with traditional markets and the opportunity to experience the rhythms of a farming community.

When is the best time to visit?

The best time to visit Zərdab is during spring (April to June) and early autumn (September to October), when temperatures are pleasant (18–26°C) and the agricultural landscape is active. Summer months bring extreme heat, making outdoor exploration uncomfortable. Winters are mild but can be damp. Local agricultural fairs and seasonal celebrations occur during the harvest period in September and October.
