Why visit Shamkir?

Shamkir (also known as Şəmkir and historically as Annenfeld) is a city in northwestern Azerbaijan, the administrative centre of Shamkir Rayon. It lies in the Ganja–Qazakh plain on the banks of the Shamkir River, at the foot of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains. Founded as a German colony named Annenfeld in the early 19th century by Swabian settlers, the city retains traces of its German heritage in its architecture and layout. Today, Shamkir is an industrial and agricultural centre, known for its wineries, particularly the Shamkir Wine Factory, and for its production of fruit and vegetables. Summers are warm, winters cool, and spring and autumn are the best times to visit.
