About Kalakhan
Kalakhan is a mountain village in Lerik District in southern Azerbaijan, situated in the Talysh Mountains at approximately 1,200 m elevation. Like much of Lerik District, Kalakhan is known as a "longevity village" — part of a region famous for its unusually high number of centenarians. The pure mountain spring water, clean air, and traditional diet of dairy, grains, and wild greens are credited for this phenomenon.
The village consists of traditional stone houses scattered along a valley, surrounded by forested slopes and alpine meadows. The population is Talysh, and the local way of life has changed little over generations. Summers are mild (18–25°C), winters cold with snow (0–5°C). Spring and summer are the best times to visit.
