Dashkasan
Daşkəsən, Azerbaijan
Why visit Dashkasan?
Dashkasan is a town and the administrative centre of the Daşkəsən District in western Azerbaijan. Situated on the southern slopes of the Lesser Caucasus mountains at around 1,600 m elevation, it is known for its mining industry — the name "Dashkasan" means "stone quarry" in Azerbaijani. The area has significant deposits of iron ore, gold, and other minerals, which have shaped its character as an industrial and mining town. The climate is cooler than the lowlands, with cold winters and mild summers, making it a potential base for exploring the surrounding mountains.
