Bayan

Daşkəsən, Azerbaijan

Why visit Bayan?

Bayan is a village and municipality in the Daşkəsən District of western Azerbaijan, in the Lesser Caucasus mountains. With a population of roughly 2,000, it is the most populous municipality in the district outside the district capital, Daşkəsən town itself. Bayan had an Armenian population before the wider exodus of Armenians from Azerbaijan that followed the outbreak of the First Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the early 1990s; today it is an ethnically Azerbaijani village. Like the rest of the district, its economy and character have historically been tied to the area's iron-ore and mining activity, and it retains the look of a traditional rural highland settlement.
