Why visit Llogara National Park?

Llogara National Park (Parku Kombëtar i Llogarasë) is a protected area situated in the Ceraunian Mountains along the southwestern coast of Albania, in Vlorë County. Spanning an area of approximately 1,010 hectares, the park was established in 1966 to preserve its unique alpine and coastal ecosystems. The park is centered around the Llogara Pass, a dramatic mountain pass that rises to over 1,000 meters above sea level, dividing the Adriatic and Ionian seas and offering spectacular panoramic views of the Albanian Riviera and the Greek island of Corfu.

The landscape of Llogara is characterized by dense forests of black pine, Bosnian pine, oak, and silver fir growing on limestone cliffs, contrasted with vertical rock faces and alpine meadows. The park is a haven for biodiversity, hosting various bird species (including golden eagles and Egyptian vultures) and mammals like fallow deer, wild cats, and chamois. The climate is a mix of alpine and Mediterranean, with cool, refreshing mountain air even during the hot summer months, and heavy snowfall in winter. The best time to visit is from May to October for hiking and outdoor activities.

The main settlement in the park is a small touristic village located near the pass, consisting of hotels, restaurants, and a visitor information center.
