About Sholgara

Sholgara is a district in central-southern Balkh Province, Afghanistan, located south-west of Mazar-i-Sharif. The district centre is a small agricultural town serving the surrounding farming communities. The area is known for wheat, barley, and livestock farming, with extensive grazing lands in the drier areas.

The population is predominantly Uzbek and Tajik, with traditional rural lifestyles centred around agriculture and livestock. The climate is semi-arid with hot summers and cold winters; spring brings brief but vibrant greenery.

By Plane

The nearest airport is Mazar-e Sharif International Airport (MZR IATA), approximately 50 km north-east. A taxi costs around 600–800 Afs.

By Train

By Car / Road

Sholgara is connected by road to Mazar-i-Sharif (50 km, about 1 hour) and Sheberghan to the west. Shared taxis from Mazar's transport terminals serve the route.

The town is walkable. For travel to surrounding villages, shared taxis or private vehicles are necessary.
