An 8-day Swiss Travel Pass (approx CHF 439/pax) covers all SBB trains, the airport transfer, Lake Lucerne boat, the ticket portion of the Glacier and Bernina Express, city transport and 500+ museums, plus 50% off Jungfraujoch, Pilatus and Gornergrat.

Book scenic trains early

Glacier Express and Bernina Express seat reservations open 93 days ahead and sell out fastest in July — reserve these first, along with the three Italian Frecciarossa segments at Economy advance fares.

Timed-entry attractions

Vatican Museums, Colosseum and the Uffizi routinely sell out 4-6 weeks before July. Pre-book timed slots well in advance.

Venice on the island

Staying on the island (rather than Mestre) means overnight guests are exempt from the day-tripper access fee and you wake up in the historic centre.

Switzerland runs premium

Switzerland costs roughly twice any other country day-for-day. Budget for higher hotel and food prices in the alpine towns, and pack layers — summit temperatures stay cold year-round.
