Dete is a small railway town on the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls line, located near the eastern boundary of Hwange National Park. The town's economy is based on the railway and serving as a supply point for park visitors. Dete is the closest town to the eastern gate of Hwange National Park and a convenient base for game drives.

By Plane

The nearest commercial airport is Victoria Falls (VFA, 200 km north-west, 2.5 hours). Charter flights land at Hwange airstrips.

By Train

The Bulawayo–Victoria Falls railway passes through Dete but passenger services are suspended.

By Car / Road

Dete is 200 km north-west of Bulawayo (2.5 hours) and 50 km east of Hwange town on the A8 highway.

The town is walkable. A safari vehicle is needed for park game drives.
