Taiz
Tāʻizz, Yemen
Why visit Taiz?
Taiz (also spelled Ta'izz) is a city in southwestern Yemen and the cultural capital of the country. Situated on the slopes of Mount Sabr at about 1,400 m elevation, it was historically a centre of trade, learning, and the arts. The old city features traditional architecture with gypsum-decorated tower houses, though many were damaged in the civil war that began in 2015 — Taiz was a front-line city for years. The climate is mild and pleasant. The best time to visit is October to April. Security remains fragile and visitors should check current conditions carefully.
