About Ataq

Ataq is a town in central Yemen and the capital of Shabwah Governorate. It lies in the Hadhramawt region at the edge of the Ramlat al-Sab'atayn desert. The town has a small museum and market. The surrounding area is known for oil and gas production. The climate is extremely hot; best visited November to February.

By Plane

Ataq Airport (AXK) has irregular flights. Sana'a (SAH) is about 300 km west.

By Train

No railway.

By Car / Road

Ataq is connected by road to Marib (120 km northwest, 2.5 hours), Seiyun (150 km east, 3 hours), and Aden (250 km south, 5 hours). Shared taxis from Marib cost YER 4,000.
