Radfan
Laḩij, Yemen
Why visit Radfan?
Radfan is a historic district of Lahij Governorate in the mountainous highlands north of Aden. It is best known internationally as the site of the Radfan Campaign of 1963–64, a series of clashes during the Aden Emergency in which local tribesmen linked to the National Liberation Front raided the road connecting Aden to Dhale, prompting Britain to send in ground troops and the RAF to suppress the revolt. The campaign was a turning point in the broader Aden Emergency that ultimately ended British rule in South Arabia by 1967. Today Radfan is a rural district of small villages set among rocky hills.
