Lawdar

Abyan, Yemen

About Lawdar

Lawdar (also spelled Laudar) is a town in central Abyan Governorate, Yemen, situated at the confluence of several wadis that drain the southern highlands toward the Gulf of Aden. It serves as a market hub for the surrounding agricultural districts, where farmers grow sorghum, millet, and dates. During Yemen's civil conflict Lawdar experienced periods of militant control and military campaigns, and the security situation remains fragile. The climate is arid and hot, with summer temperatures frequently exceeding 38°C; the cooler months from November to February offer the most comfortable conditions for travel. Lawdar is not a tourist destination but may interest those passing through Abyan's interior.
