Vaitupu

Uvea, Wallis and Futuna Islands

About Vaitupu

Vaitupu is the largest village in the Hihifo District of Wallis Island (Uvea) and the seat of the district's administration. With a population of about 406, it is one of the more significant settlements on the northern half of the island, located on the northeast coast between the lagoon and the airport. Vaitupu has a slightly more developed feel than the smaller surrounding villages, with a larger church, a few small stores, and a more noticeable concentration of activity around its centre. Despite that, it remains a quiet Wallisian village where life is paced by the church, the lagoon, and the plantations.

The best time to visit is the dry season from May to October.
