Why visit Mang Thit?

Mang Thit is a rural district (huyện) of Vĩnh Long Province in the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam. The district covers an area of 158 km² and had a population of approximately 103,500 as of 2018. Its administrative capital is the town of Cai Nhum. Mang Thit is predominantly agricultural, with rice paddies, fruit orchards, and fish farms dominating the landscape. The district is crisscrossed by a network of canals and small rivers that feed into the larger Mekong system.

The climate is tropical monsoon, with a dry season from November to April and a rainy season from May to October. The district is best visited during the dry season when rural roads are more passable.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Can Tho International Airport (VCA) is the nearest airport, about 45 km south. A taxi to Mang Thit costs around 350,000–450,000 dong.

By Car / Road

Mang Thit is accessible via National Highway 53 and provincial roads from Vĩnh Long city (about 25 km north-east). Buses from Vĩnh Long's central bus terminal serve Cai Nhum town, the district capital.

The best way to explore Mang Thit is by motorbike or bicycle, allowing you to navigate the narrow rural roads between villages. Motorbike taxis (xe ôm) can be hired in Cai Nhum. The district's canals can be explored by small boat, though these are usually arranged informally.
