Son Tinh

Sơn Tịnh is a district located just north of Quảng Ngãi City in Quảng Ngãi province, Vietnam. The district is largely rural, with agricultural land and several historical sites from the Vietnam War era. The district houses the northern bus station serving Quảng Ngãi City. Sơn Tịnh town is the administrative centre.

The climate is tropical monsoon, with the rainy season from September to December and dry season from January to August.

Chu Lai Airport (VCL IATA) is approximately 40 km north, with domestic flights.

By Train

The North-South railway passes through the district, with local stations serving Sơn Tịnh.

By Car / Road

Sơn Tịnh is adjacent to Quảng Ngãi City along National Highway 1, about 5 km north. Buses and taxis from Quảng Ngãi City reach the district easily.

Local buses and motorbike taxis connect the district's villages. Taxis from Quảng Ngãi City are also available.

• Son My village — The site of the My Lai incident, with a memorial and museum.

• Visit the My Lai Massacre Memorial Museum — The primary reason visitors come to this district. A solemn memorial and museum documenting the 1968 incident.

• My Khe Beach — An 8 km long beach in Co Luy Village, Tinh Khe commune, with white sand and food stalls.

• Co Luy Commune bike ride — Riverside paths through coconut groves and rural scenery.

Restaurants in Sơn Tịnh town serve phở, bún, cơm, and other Vietnamese staples. Near My Khe Beach there are several food stalls catering to beachgoers, serving seafood and snacks.

Coffee shops are available in Sơn Tịnh town and near the bus station area. Fresh coconut water is available at My Khe Beach. Bottled water is recommended.

Small guesthouses are available in the district. Most visitors staying overnight prefer to stay in nearby Quảng Ngãi City (5 km south), which has a wider range of hotels.

Sơn Tịnh town market sells fresh produce and household goods. The Tinh Phong Industrial Park area has convenience stores.
