About Thap Muoi

Thap Muoi is a rural district in eastern Dong Thap province, located in the heart of the Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds) — a vast, seasonally flooded wetland that is one of Vietnam's most distinctive landscapes. The district is sparsely populated, with agriculture dominated by rice farming, lotus cultivation, and freshwater fishing. During the flood season (August-November), much of the district is submerged, creating a unique aquatic landscape.

The climate is tropical monsoon with a distinct wet and dry season. The flood season transforms the area into an inland sea, with water levels rising to 1-2 metres in some areas. The dry season (December-April) reveals the fertile fields and allows road travel across the district.

The district centre is the town of Thap Muoi, a small settlement that serves as a market hub for surrounding farming communities. The name "Thap Muoi" means "Ten Towers" in Vietnamese, referencing an ancient site in the area.
