About Kien Tuong
Kiến Tường is a district-level town (Class-4) in Long An Province, Vietnam, located approximately 80 km west of Ho Chi Minh City in the heart of the Đồng Tháp Mười (Plain of Reeds) wetland region. Established on 18 March 2013 by splitting the town of Mộc Hóa and surrounding areas from Mộc Hóa District, it covers 204.28 km² with a population of about 64,600. The administrative area is centred around the historic town of Mộc Hóa.
The area has been continuously inhabited since the 18th century. From 1956 to 1976, Kiến Tường was its own province under the Republic of Vietnam, with Mộc Hóa as its capital. After the Fall of Saigon, it was incorporated into Long An Province. Kiến Tường sits on the Vàm Cỏ Tây River and borders Cambodia's Svay Rieng Province to the north, making it a strategic border town. The economy is dominated by agriculture (70% of employment), fishing, and traditional handicrafts, though it is planned to become the economic centre of the Đồng Tháp Mười region.
The climate is tropical monsoon. The dry season (November–April) has average temperatures of 26–29°C, while the rainy season (May–October) brings heavy precipitation, especially from August to October. The best visiting months are December through March.
