Giong Rieng (Giồng Riềng) is a rural district of Kiến Giang province in the Mekong Delta region of southern Vietnam. The district is located inland, north of Rach Gia, and is primarily agricultural with rice cultivation being the main economic activity. The district capital is the township of Giong Rieng. The area is flat, criss-crossed by canals, and characteristic of the Mekong Delta landscape.

The climate is tropical monsoon, with a dry season from November to April and a wet season from May to October. The district sees very few tourists, offering an authentic slice of rural Vietnamese life.

How do you get there?

By Plane

The nearest airport is Rach Gia Airport (VKG IATA), approximately 50 km south. Taxis and buses connect the airport to Giong Rieng town.

By Car / Road

Giong Rieng is connected to Rach Gia by National Highway 80 and provincial roads. Buses from Rach Gia serve the district. The journey takes about 1 hour by car.

Motorbike taxis are the main local transport. The town is small enough to walk around. Bicycles are a good option for exploring the flat countryside.

  • Giong Rieng Market — Local market with fresh produce and daily necessities.
