About Mui Ne
Mui Ne is a coastal fishing town about 10–15 km east of Phan Thiet city centre in Binh Thuan Province. Originally a quiet fishing village, it was incorporated as a ward of Phan Thiet in 1999 and has since transformed into one of Vietnam's premier beach-resort destinations. The name "Mui Ne" is often used loosely to refer to the entire 15 km resort strip along Mui Ne Bay, which includes the wards of Phu Hai and Ham Tien.
The area gained international attention during the solar eclipse of October 1995, which drew visitors who discovered its pristine beaches and favourable wind conditions. Today the coastline is lined with over two hundred resorts, hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and bars. The resort strip runs along Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, with beachfront properties on the sea side and budget accommodation on the inland side. Mui Ne has a large Russian tourist presence, reflected in Russian-language menus and signage.
The climate is tropical monsoon with a dry season (November–April) and a rainy season (May–October). The dry season offers the best beach weather, while the rainy season brings stronger winds ideal for kite-surfing. Sand migration along the coast means beach quality varies seasonally; some research before booking is recommended.

By Plane
The nearest major airports are Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) in Ho Chi Minh City (about 220 km, 4–5 hours by road) and Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) near Nha Trang (about 250 km north-east). Most visitors arrive via open-tour buses that run from HCMC directly to Mui Ne.
By Train
The nearest railway station is Phan Thiet Railway Station (about 15 km west), which has one daily train from/to Ho Chi Minh City (departs HCMC around 06:30, arrives at Phan Thiet 5 hours later). From the station, a taxi or public bus covers the remaining distance to Mui Ne. For north–south routes, use Binh Thuan Railway Station (about 25 km west).
By Car / Road
Open-tour buses are the most common way to reach Mui Ne. Buses from Ho Chi Minh City depart between 07:30–09:00 and arrive around 13:00; buses from Da Lat and Nha Trang also serve the route. Alternatively, travel to Phan Thiet first (which has connections to many cities) and take a local bus (no. 1 or 9, 8,000–11,000 dong) or taxi the remaining 10–15 km.
The main resort strip is a single road (Nguyen Dinh Chieu), making it easy to navigate. Public buses (routes 1 and 9) run 06:00–19:00 every 20–30 minutes along the strip and to Phan Thiet for 8,000–11,000 dong. Motorbike taxis (xe om) are abundant: 10,000–15,000 dong for trips along the strip. Regular taxis start at around 20,000 dong. Grab is also available. Renting a motorbike (120,000–230,000 dong per 24 hours) is popular for exploring the region. Bicycle rental is available at many resorts. Traffic can be hazardous due to coaches and jeeps; caution is advised.
Things to do
Red Sand Dunes (Đồi Cát) – About 10 km north of the resort strip, these striking orange dunes offer views of the coastline. Reachable by taxi (about 170,000 dong each way), xe om, or bicycle (30–45 minutes). Beware of theft and pickpocketing.
Poshanu Cham Tower (Tháp Po Sah Inu) – An 8th-century Cham tower in Phu Hai ward, still used for religious gatherings by the local Cham community, especially during the Kate festival.
Fairy Stream (Suối Tiên) – A shallow creek winding through bamboo forests and mini-canyon rock formations behind the village. Ankle-deep and free to explore.
Fishing Harbour (Làng chài Mũi Né) – At the north-east end of Mui Ne Bay, a bustling working harbour with hundreds of colourful fishing boats. Best visited in the dry season. Fresh seafood sold on the spot.
Fish Sauce Plants – Mui Ne is famous for nước mắm production. Visit a local fish-sauce factory to see the traditional fermentation process in large ceramic jars.
Mui Ne Market (Chợ Mũi Né) – A colourful local market just off the main road, selling fresh produce, seafood, and daily essentials.
Kite-surfing is the premier activity in Mui Ne, with consistent winds from October to March drawing enthusiasts from around the world. Several schools offer lessons and equipment rental. Sand-dune tours (ATV and jeep) to the Red and White Sand Dunes are popular. Visit the fishing harbour at sunrise, hike the Fairy Stream, or take a day trip to the White Sand Dunes (Bàu Trắng). Evening seafood barbecues on the beach are a highlight.
