About Cu M'gar

Cu M'gar is a rural district in central Đắk Lắk Province, located about 20 km north of Buon Ma Thuot along National Route 14. The district is primarily agricultural, with coffee, pepper, rubber, and cashew plantations covering the rolling hills. Cu M'gar offers a peaceful escape from the city and a chance to experience the agricultural heart of the Central Highlands.

The climate is typical of the Central Highlands: a dry season from November to April and a rainy season from May to October. Temperatures are moderate year-round at an elevation of around 500 m.

How to reach

By Plane

The nearest airport is Buon Ma Thuot Airport (BMV IATA), about 30 km south. A taxi takes roughly 40 minutes.

By Train

By Car / Road

Cu M'gar is about 20 km north of Buon Ma Thuot on National Route 14, the main highway connecting Buon Ma Thuot to Pleiku and Da Nang. Buses running the Buon Ma Thuot–Pleiku route pass through the district centre.

The district centre is compact. Motorbike is the best way to explore the surrounding countryside and plantations. Xe ôm (motorbike taxis) are available.

  • Coffee and pepper plantations — The rolling hills around Cu M'gar are carpeted with coffee trees and pepper vines. A drive or cycle through the plantations is a highlight.
  • Ê-đê villages — Several traditional Ê-đê minority villages dot the district, featuring distinctive longhouses on stilts.

Basic eateries around the market serve phở, cơm bình dân, bún, and hủ tiếu for 20,000–40,000 dong. Several small restaurants along the main road cater to passing truck drivers and local workers.
