About Rishton
Rishton is a town in the Fergana Valley, midway between Kokand and Fergana, renowned throughout Central Asia for its ceramic pottery. The distinctive Rishton ceramics — glazed in deep blue, turquoise and green with intricate floral and geometric patterns — have been produced here for over a thousand years, using local clay and natural mineral glazes. The town is a living craft centre, with numerous family workshops and a large state-run ceramic factory.
The climate is continental: hot summers (June–August, up to 35°C) and cool winters. The town is strung along the main highway, with the old quarter clustered around the ceramic workshops. Population around 35,000.
