About Eagle River

Eagle River is a small city of roughly 1,600 people in Vilas County, in the northwoods of Wisconsin. Known as the "Snowmobile Capital of the World," Eagle River sits at the heart of a vast network of interconnected lakes and forests that draw outdoor enthusiasts year-round. The area is part of the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest region, home to more than 1,000 lakes in Vilas County alone. In summer, the lakes are packed with boats, kayaks, and anglers; in winter, the groomed snowmobile trail system stretches for over 600 miles.

Eagle River has the character of a classic Wisconsin northwoods resort town — a modest downtown with bait shops, gift stores, and supper clubs alongside a surprising number of resort lodges and vacation rentals. The Eagle River Chain of Lakes, a connected system of 28 lakes, is one of the largest inland chain of lakes in the world and serves as the town's defining geographic feature. The climate is continental: warm, pleasant summers with highs in the mid-70s to low 80s °F (24–28 °C), and cold, snowy winters with January lows well below zero °F (below −18 °C). Peak summer season runs from late June through Labor Day; winter tourism peaks from December through March.
