Fajardo

About Fajardo
Fajardo, known as "La Metrópolis del Sol Naciente" ("The City that Guards the Sun of the Caribbean"), is on the east coast of Puerto Rico, north of Ceiba and east of Luquillo. It serves as the primary gateway to the offshore islands of Culebra and Vieques, and is one of the island's premier destinations for water sports and eco-tourism. The city's main attraction is the Bioluminescent Bay at Laguna Grande, where luminescent plankton glow bright blue when the water is disturbed — a magical experience best enjoyed by kayak at night.
Fajardo sits at the convergence of the Sierra de Luquillo mountains and the Caribbean Sea, offering a dramatic landscape of mangrove forests, coral reefs, and offshore cays. The Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve protects diverse ecosystems including mangrove forests, rocky coast, and dry forest. The climate is tropical with temperatures ranging from 75–85°F year-round. The best time to visit is from December to April, though the bio bay is spectacular year-round on moonless nights.
