About Newport

Newport is a city on the Central Oregon Coast, situated where the Yaquina River meets the Pacific Ocean. With a population of roughly 10,000, it serves as the commercial hub of the mid-coast region and is known for its working waterfront, excellent seafood, and a mix of family-friendly attractions and natural beauty. The city straddles the Yaquina Bay, connected by the iconic Yaquina Bay Bridge.

The climate is mild year-round, with temperatures typically between 50°F (10°C) and 70°F (21°C). Rain is common, especially from October through May, while summers are dry and pleasant — the best time to visit is June through September. Winter storms bring dramatic wave action, which draws storm watchers to the coast. The town's layout centers around Highway 101, which runs north–south through the city, with the Bayfront district on the west side of the bridge and South Beach on the east.
