Why visit Put-in-Bay?

Put-in-Bay is a resort village on South Bass Island in Lake Erie, approximately 3 miles offshore of mainland Ohio. A summer resort since the mid-1800s, the town is the hub of tourism among the Lake Erie Islands, with numerous taverns, wineries, restaurants, and hotels. The festive atmosphere of downtown Put-in-Bay is complemented by key pieces of American history, relaxing outdoor activities, and natural splendor. The island is also close to the world-renowned Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky.

The primary industry is tourism, with the season running roughly from April through October. Approximately 500 full-time residents remain on the island during winter, when supplies and perishables are flown in along with mail, parcels, and bank employees who staff the island's only bank one day a week. The island has a single school serving grades K–12 for residents of South Bass, Middle Bass, and North Bass islands.

Put-in-Bay is accessible only by ferry or small aircraft. The island's climate is moderated by Lake Erie, with warm, pleasant summers and cold winters. Summer temperatures are comfortable in the 70s°F, making it ideal for outdoor activities, water sports, and the vibrant nightlife scene.
