Why visit West Lafayette?

West Lafayette is a city in Tippecanoe County, Indiana, home to the main campus of Purdue University, a large and prestigious public university founded in 1869. With a population of approximately 35,000 (part of the Greater Lafayette metropolitan area with a combined population of 97,000), West Lafayette is separated from Lafayette by the Wabash River and serves as the university town anchor of the region.

The Chauncey Hill and Village area along State Road 26 has most of the college bars and restaurants. The main Purdue campus stretches further west, with the residential area of West Lafayette to the north and east of the university. The Wabash Landing area along the riverfront is a newer development with shops, a multiplex theater, a park, and an outdoor ice skating rink.

West Lafayette has a humid continental climate with warm summers (highs around 83°F/28°C in July) and cold winters (highs around 35°F/2°C in January). The campus comes alive during the fall semester with football season, and spring brings pleasant weather for exploring the riverfront and walking trails.
