Why visit Nashville?
Nashville, Indiana is a small town in Brown County in southern Indiana, known as an arts and crafts colony nestled in the rolling hills of the Hoosier National Forest. With a population of fewer than 1,000, Nashville is one of Indiana's most popular tourist destinations, attracting over a million visitors annually with its unique blend of art galleries, artisan shops, and natural beauty.
The town was established in 1837 as the county seat of Brown County and was nearly abandoned in the early 20th century before artists and craftspeople discovered its scenic beauty and affordable rents in the 1920s and 1930s. Today, downtown Nashville features over 70 shops, galleries, and restaurants concentrated along Main Street (State Road 135), making it a charming walkable destination.
Nashville has a humid continental climate with warm summers (highs around 84°F/29°C in July) and cold winters (highs around 37°F/3°C in January). Fall is the most spectacular time to visit, when the surrounding hills blaze with autumn colors. Spring brings wildflowers and pleasant hiking weather. Summer weekends are crowded; weekdays and shoulder seasons offer a more relaxed experience.
