Why visit Michigan City?

Michigan City is a city in Northwestern Indiana on the shore of Lake Michigan. With a population of approximately 31,000, it serves as a gateway to the Indiana Dunes National Park, which begins on the city's western edge. The city is known for its outlet shopping, beach access, and as a convenient stopping point between Chicago and the dunes region.

Michigan City has a rich industrial history tied to its port on Lake Michigan and its lumber industry. Today, the city's economy relies heavily on tourism, retail, and the Blue Chip Casino. The Barker Mansion, a 38-room Jacobean-style manor, stands as a testament to the city's prosperous past. The city is also home to Washington Park Zoo, a small but popular attraction.

The city has a humid continental climate with warm summers (highs around 80°F/27°C in July) and cold winters (highs around 33°F/1°C in January). Summer is the peak season for beach visits and lake activities. The lakefront can be breezy even in summer, so bring a light jacket.
