About Lafayette
Lafayette is the county seat of Tippecanoe County in Central Indiana, located 2 hours southeast of Chicago and 1 hour northwest of Indianapolis. The Greater Lafayette metropolitan area consists of the cities of Lafayette and West Lafayette, with a combined population of 97,000. Neighboring West Lafayette is home to Purdue University, a large, prestigious public university founded in 1869.
The area is divided by the Wabash River, with Lafayette on the east and West Lafayette on the west. Lafayette's downtown features numerous shops, restaurants, museums, and theaters. The Historical Centennial Neighborhood lies north of downtown, and the Ninth Street Hill Neighborhood to the south. West Lafayette's Chauncey Hill and Village area has college bars and restaurants, while the main Purdue campus stretches further west.
Lafayette has a humid continental climate with warm summers (highs around 83°F/28°C in July) and cold winters (highs around 35°F/2°C in January). Fall is particularly vibrant with Purdue football season and the Feast of the Hunter's Moon festival. Spring brings pleasant weather for exploring the downtown and riverfront areas.

By Plane
Purdue University Airport (LAF), 1515 Aviation Drive, operates 5AM–midnight. United Express offers daily flights to Chicago. Lafayette Limo shuttle runs from Lafayette to Indianapolis ($27 one-way) and Chicago ($55 one-way) airports. Reindeer Shuttle offers similar service at $30 and $60 respectively.
By Train
Amtrak's Cardinal operates three trips weekly between Chicago and New York City, stopping at Lafayette station (200 North Second Street). Stops include Dyer, Rensselaer, Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, and Washington, D.C.
By Car / Road
Interstate 65 marks the eastern edge of Lafayette, with four exits: St Rd 38, St Rd 26, St Rd 25, and St Rd 43 (for West Lafayette). State Rd 26 runs east-west through both cities. Greyhound provides service from Chicago (3.5 hours).
The Greater Lafayette area has 15 bus routes. Tickets cost $1, with 10 tokens for $7.50 and a $28 monthly pass. Purdue students and staff ride free. A free trolley runs from downtown Lafayette to West Lafayette/Purdue every 15 minutes. Some bus lines do not run on weekends, in the summer, or when classes are not in session. The area is suburban and relatively spread out; a private automobile is recommended. The John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge connects downtown Lafayette with West Lafayette.

Purdue Football — Attend a Boilermakers game at Ross-Ade Stadium during football season.
Feast of the Hunter's Moon — Annual fall festival recreating 18th-century frontier life at Fort Ouiatenon.
Colt World Series — Every August, youth baseball tournament.
Taste of Tippecanoe — Every June, food and music festival.
Ice Skating — Riverside Skating Center, 100 Tapawingo Dr, just east of Wabash Landing, in winter.
Tropicanoe Cove — Water park and recreation area.
