About Crested Butte

Crested Butte is a ski resort and mountain town in the Rocky Mountains of southwestern Colorado, known as the "Wildflower Capital of Colorado." Located at 8,885 feet elevation in the Gunnison Valley, this former coal mining town has become a destination for skiing, mountain biking, and outdoor activities. With a permanent population of about 1,600, Crested Butte maintains a laid-back, unpretentious character distinct from more commercialized Colorado ski resorts.

The winter season is long with heavy snowfall and cold temperatures, while summer brings wildflower blooms in the alpine meadows. The town's Victorian architecture reflects its mining heritage, and its festivals and events draw visitors year-round. Mt. Crested Butte, three miles north, is the base of the ski resort at 9,350 feet elevation.
