Kyiv (Ukrainian: Київ) is the capital and largest city of Ukraine, a millennium-old city of golden domes, Soviet grandeur, and vibrant contemporary culture straddling the Dnieper River.
As a special city-region with its own unique status within Ukraine, Kyiv combines a millennium of history with a pulsating modern energy. The city's compact but walkable centre, efficient metro system, and welcoming atmosphere make it an ideal destination for travellers seeking to understand Ukraine's past and present. From the golden domes of Saint Sophia Cathedral to the monumental Motherland Calls statue, every corner of this sprawling metropolis tells a story.
When to Visit
Late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) offer the most pleasant weather, with temperatures between 18–25°C and the countryside in full bloom or autumn colour. July and August can be warm (25–30°C), ideal for river activities. Winter (December-February) brings snow and cold (typically -5 to -10°C), but also the possibility of winter festivals and lower prices.

WhatsAppGetting Around
The oblast is served by Ukrainian Railways, with regular trains connecting the main cities. Buses ('marshrutky') are the most practical option for reaching smaller towns and villages. Regional roads are generally paved but may be uneven in rural areas. Taxis are affordable and can be hired for day trips between towns. Driving yourself offers the most flexibility for exploring remote villages.

For fine dining, the restaurants around Andriyivskyi Descent and Podil district serve modern Ukrainian cuisine using locally sourced ingredients.
