Mayuge

Mayuge is a town located on the northern shore of Lake Victoria in eastern Uganda, serving as the administrative headquarters of Mayuge District. The area is primarily agricultural and fishing-based, with Lake Victoria providing a livelihood for many residents. The town has a quiet, rural character and is predominantly inhabited by the Basoga people, with Lusoga and Luganda as the main languages.

Mayuge is off the main tourist routes but offers access to the lake's shoreline, fishing communities, and wetlands.

The nearest airport is Entebbe International Airport (EBB IATA), about 150 km west.

By Train

There is no passenger train service to Mayuge.

By Car / Road

Matatus from Jinja and Iganga serve Mayuge. The journey from Jinja is about 1.5 hours. Roads are a mix of paved and marram.

Boda-bodas are the main form of transport. The town centre is small and walkable.
