Why visit Busia?

Busia is a bustling border town on the Uganda–Kenya border, located approximately 100 km east of Jinja on the main highway to Nairobi. It is one of the busiest land border crossings between the two countries, with lively cross-border trade in goods ranging from foodstuffs to manufactured products. The town serves as the administrative headquarters of Busia District.

The population is a mix of the local Samia-Bagwe people, traders from across East Africa, and cross-border commuters. Lusamia and Luganda are spoken alongside English and Swahili.
