About Esenguly

Esenguly is a small coastal town in the far south of Balkan Province, Turkmenistan, near the border with Iran. It is the southernmost settlement of any size in Turkmenistan, situated on the Caspian Sea coast just north of the Etrek River delta.

The town is named after a local Turkmen figure and has historically been a fishing and agricultural community. The surrounding area is flat and semi-arid, with salt flats, scrubland, and the vast Caspian Sea to the west. The town has minimal tourist infrastructure but offers a glimpse into a quiet, traditional Caspian lifestyle far from Turkmenistan's glittering capital.

The climate is semi-arid with mild winters (5–15°C) and hot summers (30–40°C). The coastal location keeps summer temperatures slightly lower than inland areas. Spring and autumn are the best visiting seasons. Rain is rare.
