Why visit Kahta?
Kahta is a town in Adıyaman Province, situated on the Kahta River near the Atatürk Reservoir. It is the primary gateway for visiting Nemrut Dağı (Mount Nemrut), the UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring the colossal stone heads and tomb-sanctuary of King Antiochus I of Commagene. The town itself has a long history, with several important archaeological sites nearby including Kahta Castle and the Cendere Bridge.
Kahta has a continental climate with very hot, dry summers and cool winters. Spring and autumn are the main tourist seasons for visiting the mountain-top site.

By Plane
Adıyaman Airport (ADF IATA) is about 40 km south. Şanlıurfa Airport (SFQ IATA) is about 2 hours east. Both have flights from Istanbul and Ankara.
By Car / Road
Kahta is about 30 minutes northeast of Adıyaman city on the D-360 highway. Frequent minibuses and buses connect from Adıyaman. Guided tours to Nemrut Dağı depart daily from Kahta.
The town centre is walkable. For Nemrut Dağı, Cendere Bridge, and Arsemia, you need a rental car, taxi, or guided tour.

Kahta Castle (Yenikale) — A medieval castle perched on a hill above the town, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Cendere Bridge (Septimius Severus Bridge) — A magnificent Roman bridge built in the 2nd century AD, among the oldest surviving Roman bridges in Turkey. It spans the Cendere River near Kahta.
Arsemia (Arsameia) — The ancient capital of the Commagene Kingdom, located just outside Kahta. It features relief carvings, tunnels, and inscriptions.
Atatürk Reservoir — The enormous dam lake visible from the town, offering boat trips and water activities.
