Why visit San Juan?

San Juan is a bustling commercial town in the San Juan-Laventille region of Trinidad, located approximately 8 km east of Port of Spain along the Eastern Main Road. The town serves as the main commercial and transportation hub for the surrounding communities of Laventille, Barataria, Morvant, and Aranguez, and is one of the busiest urban centres outside of the capital. The town's identity is shaped by its role as a working-class commercial centre. The San Juan Market, centred on the Eastern Main Road, is one of the largest and most active in Trinidad, drawing shoppers from across the northwest of the island. The surrounding streets are lined with shops, roti parlours, doubles vendors, hardware stores, and clothing outlets. San Juan is predominantly Afro-Trinidadian and Indo-Trinidadian, with mosques, churches, and temples within a few blocks of each other. The climate is tropical — dry from January to May, rainy from June to December — with temperatures between 25–32°C.
