Talparo
Couva-Tabaquite-Talparo, Trinidad and Tobago
Why visit Talparo?
Talparo is a small rural village in the interior of central Trinidad, located in the eastern part of the Couva-Tabaquite-Talparo region. Set among the foothills of the Northern Range, Talparo is surrounded by forested hills, cocoa and citrus plantations, and mixed agricultural land. The village has a small population and is one of the more remote settlements in central Trinidad, offering a tranquil escape from the urbanised western coast.
The area has historically been associated with cocoa cultivation, and Trinidad's fine flavour cocoa — once considered among the best in the world — was grown extensively in the hills around Talparo and neighbouring villages. The climate is tropical, with heavy rainfall during the wet season (June–December), and the surrounding forests are lush and green year-round.
Talparo is not a tourist destination in the conventional sense, but it appeals to visitors seeking rural Trinidad, birdwatching, and an understanding of the island's agricultural heritage.
