The most common way to reach Uato-Carbau is by mikrolet (shared minibus) or shared taxi from the municipal capital of Viqueque. Roads in the area are largely unpaved and can be challenging, especially after rain.

Swimming, snorkelling, and relaxing on the beach are the main activities. Diving is excellent in many coastal areas, particularly around Atauro Island and the eastern tip. Fishing trips can often be arranged with local fishermen.

Dining options in Uato-Carbau are limited to small local warungs and kiosks selling basic Timorese meals — mainly rice with fish or chicken, vegetables, and coffee. It is advisable to carry snacks, especially if travelling beyond the main towns.

Local coffee is widely available and excellent — Timor-Leste produces some of the finest arabica in the region. Water, soft drinks, and beer (including the local Timorese beer) can be found at small kiosks and cafes throughout Uato-Carbau.

Accommodation options in Uato-Carbau are very limited. Most visitors stay in Viqueque or another larger town and visit Uato-Carbau as a day trip. If you need to stay overnight, enquire locally about homestay possibilities with families — this is common in rural Timor-Leste.

Basic goods and daily necessities are available at small local shops (kiosks) in Uato-Carbau. Fresh produce is sold at the local market. For more extensive shopping, the district capital has a wider selection of goods. ATMs are not commonly found outside the main towns, so bring sufficient cash.

Return to Viqueque town or continue to nearby destinations in the municipality. From Viqueque, connections extend to Dili and other parts of the country.
