About Krathum Baen

Krathum Baen is a town in the northern part of Samut Sakhon province, about 20 km west of central Bangkok. Part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Region, it functions largely as a commuter town and local administrative centre, with a population of around 23,000. The name means "flat burflower-tree", after the tree species once common in the area.

The town became a subdistrict municipality in 1940 and was upgraded to town status in 1995. Unlike coastal Maha Chai, Krathum Baen is inland — its character is that of a busy Thai provincial market town, with a large hospital, several schools, and a mix of local shops, fruit orchards, and temple communities. It is also known for orchid farms and roadside fruit stalls selling the produce of the surrounding orchards.

The climate follows the central Thai pattern: cool and dry from November to February, hot March–May, and rainy June–October.
