Wang Nam Yen

Sa Kaeo, Thailand

About Wang Nam Yen

Wang Nam Yen (วังน้ำเย็น) is a district in southern Sa Kaeo province, covering 325 km² with a population of about 62,000. The name means "Cold Water Palace" — a reference to the water source that drew the first settlers. The district was established in 1971 when a new road connecting Chanthaburi province with Sa Kaeo prompted people from Ban Tha Ta Si and Ban Nong Prue to move and form a new village. It became a full district in April 1983.

Today, Wang Nam Yen is best known as one of Thailand's key dairy-producing regions, home to a major dairy cooperative. The landscape is flat agricultural land interspersed with small reservoirs and farming communities. For travellers, the district is primarily a transit stop on the route between Sa Kaeo province and the southern provinces of Chanthaburi and Chachoengsao. It has a semi-rural character with limited tourist infrastructure.

The climate is typical of inland eastern Thailand: a cool-dry season (November–February), a very hot season (March–May), and a rainy season (May–October).
