Why visit Doi Phu Nang National Park?

Doi Phu Nang National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติดอยภูนาง) is a protected area in the Phi Pan Nam Range of Phayao Province, established in 2012. Covering 860 sq km across Dok Khamtai, Pong, and Chiang Muan districts, the park features two mountain chains — Mae Yom and Nampi — with a non-protected area in between. The highest peak, Doi Phu Nang at 1,202 m, gives the park its name and is the source of two tributaries of the Yom River.

The park is known for its two impressive waterfalls — Than Sawan (น้ำตกธารสวรรค์) and Huai Ton Phueng (น้ำตกห้วยต้นผึ้ง) — both with swimmable pools. It is also an important habitat for the rare green peafowl, which breeds here from January to March.

The best time to visit is during the cool season (Nov–Feb) when temperatures are comfortable and the waterfalls are flowing. The rainy season (Jun–Oct) brings fuller waterfalls but leeches on trails.
